How to Enable FSR 4.1 on RX 6000 and Ryzen AI with Adrenalin 26.10.1
Adrenalin 26.10.1 (Oct 20, 2026) brings FSR Upscaling 4.1 to RX 6000 and Ryzen AI Max/AI 9. Install steps, the AMD FSR Upscaling toggle, known issues, and rolling back to 26.9.1.
TL;DR: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 (released October 20, 2026) adds FSR Upscaling 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 cards and to Ryzen AI Max 300/400 and Ryzen AI 9 300/400 processors. Install the driver, open AMD Software → Gaming → Graphics, turn on "AMD FSR Upscaling", then pick FSR in the game. Games with native FSR 4 support show it in their own menus. In DirectX 12 games that ship FSR 3.1 or newer, the driver upgrades FSR 3.1 to the ML upscaler. If something breaks, run the AMD Cleanup Utility and reinstall 26.9.1. What actually changed in 26.10.1
AMD says it "optimized the INT8 model originally created for FSR Upscaling 4.1 on AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs" so it can run on RX 6000 (RDNA 2). RDNA 2 has no dedicated AI hardware, so the model runs on the regular shader cores (Tom's Hardware; Frames Games). Ryzen AI 9 laptops and Z2-class handhelds get a newer, smaller model that AMD describes as less than half the size of the original (Wccftech). AMD had promised RX 6000 support for early 2027, so it arrived several months early (VideoCardz).
On RX 6000 you only get the new upscaler. PC Games Hardware, as cited by Deal N Tech, reports that ML frame generation and Ray Regeneration remain RX 9000-only.

The RX 6000 model list comes from VideoCardz's compatibility table. The release notes list the family as "RX 6900/6800/6700/6600/6500/6400 Series."
Step 1: Install Adrenalin 26.10.1
- Check your OS. You need Windows 11 21H2 or later, or Windows 10 64-bit 21H2 or later.
- Download the driver. Use the link on the 26.10.1 release notes ("Systems with RDNA series graphics products"), the AMD Auto-Detect and Install tool, or Check for Updates inside AMD Software. The package is a combined installer: it carries driver 26.20.15.07 and driver 25.10.45.16, plus an NPU driver.
- Close games, overlays and capture tools. AMD also suggests temporarily disabling antivirus, firewall, remote-access and streaming software during setup.
- Run the installer, click Yes to unpack, and review the EULA.
- Pick your install type:
- Accept & Express Install is the normal upgrade.
- For a clean install, open Additional Options and tick Factory Reset (Optional). It removes all prior AMD Software packages, pauses Windows Update, reboots and then continues the install. AMD notes that you "will not be able to roll back to the previously installed drivers" from this point, so download the 26.9.1 installer first.
- Under Software Type, keep Default. Driver Only has no AMD Software UI, so it has no FSR toggle.
- Reboot when prompted.
- Windows 10 users: AMD lists "Smart Access Memory may become disabled" as a known issue. Check it in AMD Software after the reboot.
Step 2: Enable FSR 4.1
AMD gives two paths (AMD FSR page):
- Close the game.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and go to the Gaming tab, then the Graphics sub-tab (global settings).
- Turn on "AMD FSR Upscaling". On RX 6000 and the listed Ryzen chips, this is the upscaler toggle that matters.
- Launch the game and open its graphics or video settings:
- Native integration: select AMD FSR Upscaling. AMD says some games "may still show the previous name for this technology, AMD FSR 4."
- FSR 3.1-or-newer games: select FSR 3.1 and the driver swaps in the ML upscaler. Deal N Tech notes this override covers DirectX 12 games using a signed FSR 3.1 DLL, not Vulkan.
- Pick a preset (Quality, Balanced, Performance and so on) in the game menu.
- Check that it's active visually. The shimmer on fences, grilles and foliage that FSR 3.1 is known for should be clearly reduced.
Which games? AMD's supported games list is the source of truth. AMD says FSR "Redstone" (upscaling, frame generation, Ray Regeneration or Radiance Caching) is in over 400 games on RX 9000, but not every entry has the upscaler path RX 6000 uses. Native Vulkan support is due with FSR SDK 2.4 "in the next couple of weeks," per AMD's announcement as summarized by Frames Games. Until then, Vulkan games won't get it.
Performance on RX 6000
There is only a little hard data so far:
- Tom's Hardware: in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K, FSR Balanced, on an RX 6900 XT, a quick test put FSR 4's cost at about 13% compared with FSR 3.1.
- AMD's own demo: in Crimson Desert at 4K on an RX 6800 XT, AMD showed about 101 FPS with FSR 4.1 Performance against about 95 FPS with FSR 3.1 Quality. These are different presets, so the demo doesn't measure the upscaler's raw cost. AMD's argument is that 4.1 Performance looks better than 3.1 Quality.
- RX 6700 XT: French site Hardware & Co summarized a five-game video test by VCG. The finding: FSR 4.1 is "much better" than 3.1 and fixes much of the instability, though not all of it. The cost is real but "not awful." The test published no FPS table.
No one has published numbers for the RX 6500 XT or RX 6400 yet. On low-end cards, compare FSR 4.1 one preset lower (for example, Performance) against your old FSR 3.1 setting.

None of the listed issues name the RX 6000 series. The only RX 6000 entry is a fix: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 stuttering on RX 6000 and newer is resolved.
Community reports (unconfirmed by AMD). In the Guru3D 26.10.1 thread, one user says Battlefield 6 driver corruption persists and went back to 26.3.1. Another says Forza Horizon 6's graphical glitches are fixed, but occasional out-of-VRAM crashes remain. Several users there say the DLL ships separate RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 INT8 variants and that AMD offers no model picker. So far we haven't found any widespread r/Amd or r/radeon reports of FSR 4.1 failing on RX 6000.
Roll back to 26.9.1
AMD's notes say to use the AMD Cleanup Utility when downgrading.
- Download 26.9.1 first from its release notes page (driver 26.10.41.03 / 25.10.45.09). If you'd prefer 26.9.2 (Sept 29), its notes list the War Thunder RX 5000 issue too and point back to 26.9.1.
- Optional: save your profiles with Snap Settings (type "Snap" in AMD Software's search box and export).
- Close Windows Update. AMD says the Cleanup Utility terminates if Windows Update is running.
- Download and run amdcleanuputility.exe (AMD GPU-601). Click Yes to reboot into Safe Mode, which AMD recommends.
- Click OK. The screen may flicker, and the cleanup can take 15–20 minutes.
- Click Finish and reboot. If something goes wrong, the utility creates an AMD Cleanup Utility Restore Point.
- Install 26.9.1 with Express Install.
DDU instead? Display Driver Uninstaller is a popular third-party alternative. Run it in Safe Mode, choose "Clean and restart," then install 26.9.1. AMD only documents its own Cleanup Utility.
Rolling back removes FSR 4.1 on RX 6000. Before 26.10.1, the only way to get FSR 4 on RDNA 2 was unofficial: see our OptiScaler AMD/Intel setup guide and OptiScaler with online games and anti-cheat.
Caution: never use DLL swaps or OptiScaler in online games with anti-cheat. The official driver path doesn't need them.
FAQ
Do I still need OptiScaler on RX 6000? Not in games that support FSR 4 natively or that use FSR 3.1 in DX12. OptiScaler is still useful for DLSS/XeSS-only games. Compare options in DLSS Swapper vs Manager vs OptiScaler.
Is FSR frame generation also ML-based on RX 6000? No. ML frame generation and Ray Regeneration stay RX 9000-only, according to PC Games Hardware's reporting.
My ROG Xbox Ally X doesn't have it. Handhelds get FSR 4.1 through the device maker's driver, not Adrenalin. ASUS has confirmed it's coming to ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, and timing depends on the OEM.
Laptop with an RX 6800M? 26.10.1 supports it, but AMD recommends OEM drivers for laptops. If the reference driver misbehaves, go back to your OEM package.
Does it work on Linux? This driver is Windows-only. In June, an r/radeon user ran FSR 4.1 INT8 on an RX 6800 XT under Linux. That route is unofficial.
Is it the same FSR 4.1 as RX 7000? Same feature, but Guru3D users report a separate INT8 variant for RDNA 2. AMD hasn't documented the difference.
