The Blood of Dawnwalker DLSS 4.5 Guide: Enable Dynamic Multi Frame Generation on PC (RTX 50, 40, 30)

How to enable DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation in The Blood of Dawnwalker via the NVIDIA app: driver, override, in-game settings, fixes.

TL;DR: Since October 28, 2026, NVIDIA's app can upgrade The Blood of Dawnwalker to DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation (NVIDIA GeForce News). This is an override, not a new in-game option. The game itself still ships with standard DLSS Super Resolution and 2X DLSS Frame Generation. What you need: GeForce driver 595.97 or newer (NVIDIA's minimum for these overrides; the current Game Ready driver is 621.01), the latest NVIDIA app, and DLSS + DLSS Frame Generation switched on in the game's menu. RTX 50 gets Dynamic MFG (up to 6X). RTX 40 gets 2X Frame Generation plus the 4.5 upscaler. RTX 20/30 get the upscaler only, and should mostly stay on Preset K.

What NVIDIA turned on (and what's still native)

NVIDIA's Oct 28 roundup says: "The Blood of Dawnwalker launched with DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation, and now they can be upgraded to DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation via the NVIDIA app" (NVIDIA). On the same day Rebel Wolves' v1.1 update was already live. It came out on Oct 22 and brought an "update to the FrameGen technology, including dedicated settings" and a fix for flicker in windowed mode with DLSS FG (Bandai Namco patch notes).

Feature Where it comes from Notes
DLSS Super Resolution (Quality → Ultra Performance) Native, in-game Upscaling menu Game shipped Sept 3 with it
DLSS Frame Generation 2X Native, in-game Frame Generation menu Labelled "[EXPERIMENTAL]"; RTX 40+
DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution (Presets M / L) NVIDIA app override All RTX GPUs
Fixed MFG 3X–6X / Dynamic MFG NVIDIA app override RTX 50 only
FSR / XeSS / TSR upscaling, FSR Frame Gen Native Works on any GPU
DLSS Multi Frame Generation in the menu Not available DSOGaming: "there is no support for DLSS Multi-Frame Gen" natively

At launch, many players tried forcing MFG, and the NVIDIA app showed the Frame Generation override for this game as unsupported (r/DawnwalkerOfficial, Sept 2026). The Oct 28 announcement is NVIDIA officially enabling it. You no longer need the hand-edited ApplicationStorage.json workaround that circulated back then.

Requirements and GPU support

GPU DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution DLSS Frame Generation (2X) Fixed MFG 3X–6X Dynamic MFG
RTX 50 Yes Yes Yes (up to 6X) Yes
RTX 40 Yes Yes No No
RTX 30 Yes (heavier cost, no FP8) No No No
RTX 20 Yes (heavier cost, no FP8) No No No
GTX / AMD / Intel No DLSS. Use FSR or XeSS, plus FSR Frame Gen — — —

NVIDIA calls Dynamic MFG a "GeForce RTX 50 Series DLSS override" and caps it at 6X. It says the 4.5 Super Resolution models carry "a heavier performance impact" on RTX 20/30 because those cards "lack native FP8 support". The game's own menu says DLSS Frame Generation "is supported by GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards (and newer)" (NVIDIA app article, DawnwalkerDB).

Other things you need:

  • Driver: GeForce Game Ready 595.97 WHQL or newer is NVIDIA's stated minimum for the Dynamic MFG and 6X overrides. The latest Game Ready driver is 621.01 (Oct 21, 2026). RTX 50 owners who get video freezes or black screens on 621.01 can use the 621.12 hotfix (Oct 27). See our 621.12 hotfix guide.
  • NVIDIA app: the latest version. Back in March, Dynamic MFG required the beta channel (Settings > About > Opt in) (NVIDIA support). If you don't see the "Dynamic" option, opt in.
  • Game: v1.1 or newer (Steam updates it automatically).
  • Display: a high-refresh monitor (144Hz or more). Dynamic MFG only adds the frames needed to reach your target or refresh rate.

Source: Steam, Bandai Namco. Even the recommended spec is an RTX 40 card. That means anyone at "recommended" or above can run DLSS Frame Generation in this game.

Step 1: Update the driver and the NVIDIA app

  1. Open the NVIDIA app > Drivers and install Game Ready 621.01 (or 621.12 if you're on RTX 50 and hit video freezes). If you're asked, pick Express. A clean install isn't required.
  2. Go to NVIDIA app > Settings > About and check for updates. If "Dynamic" doesn't appear in Step 2, turn on Opt in to beta and experimental features and restart the app.
  3. Reboot once, then launch the game once so the app detects it. If it doesn't show up, use Graphics > Program Settings > Add and pick the game's .exe.

Step 2: NVIDIA app > Graphics > Program Settings > DLSS Override

Open Graphics > Program Settings and pick The Blood of Dawnwalker. Use the per-game profile, not Global Settings. A Global DLSS override is a known cause of in-game Frame Generation breaking in this game (r/DawnwalkerOfficial).

A. Super Resolution model

  • DLSS Override – Model Presets > Super Resolution > "Recommended". This gives you Preset M in DLSS Performance mode, Preset L in Ultra Performance, and Preset K (DLSS 4) in Quality/Balanced/DLAA (NVIDIA).
  • To force 4.5 at every quality level, pick Preset M instead. On RTX 20/30, pick Preset K.

B. Frame Generation (RTX 50)

  • DLSS Override – Frame Generation Mode > Dynamic.
  • Target: Max refresh rate, so it follows your monitor's Hz. You can also choose Custom and type a cap, for example 3 below your refresh rate if you prefer that.
  • Optional: set Max multiplier. 4X is a good start, because higher multipliers add generated frames on top of a lower real frame rate.
  • Want a fixed multiplier instead? Choose Fixed and pick 3X–6X.

C. Frame Generation (RTX 40)

  • Leave Frame Generation Mode on "Use 3D app setting". That's NVIDIA's route for plain 2X, which you then turn on in-game.

Click Apply, then launch the game.

Step 3: In-game settings (Options > Video / Display)

  1. Upscaling Technology: DLSS. Upscaling Mode: Quality at 1080p/1440p, Performance at 4K, or Performance at any resolution if you want Preset M through "Recommended".
  2. Frame Generation: DLSS (RTX 40/50). This must be on. The NVIDIA app override upgrades the game's own Frame Generation, so with it off there's nothing to override.
  3. Display tab: VSync Off, and Frame Rate Limit / Maximum FPS off or unlimited. NVIDIA says Dynamic mode "is currently not compatible with frame rate limiters and V-Sync" (NVIDIA). If you use G-SYNC, leave it on in the NVIDIA app or Control Panel.
  4. Quality Preset: High, not Ultra. DSOGaming found Ultra too heavy for what it shows. With High, an RTX 5090 hit 60 FPS at native 4K. Their advice is to mix High and Ultra, upscale, and "once you have a healthy base frame rate, you can use Frame Gen" (DSOGaming).
  5. Restart the game after changing Frame Generation. Several players report FG only takes effect after a restart.

Published performance (no NVIDIA figure for this game)

NVIDIA's Oct 28 post gives no FPS numbers for Dawnwalker. Its only published MFG uplift figure is general: moving from 4X to 6X "increases 4K frame rates in path-traced titles by up to 35%" on RTX 50 (NVIDIA). Dawnwalker isn't path traced, so don't expect that exact figure here. The closest published Dawnwalker benchmark is Sportskeeda's RTX 5070 Ti run: 1440p, Ultra preset, Ryzen 5 7600X, driver 616.56, before patch 1.1. It shows how big the upscaler and 2X FG gains are, before any MFG:

Setting (Ultra preset) Avg FPS 1% low 0.1% low
Native (no DLSS, no FG) 54 32 20
DLSS Quality 102 32 21
DLSS Performance 118 30 18
DLSS Ultra Performance 121 30 16

Source: Sportskeeda Tech. Sportskeeda's text calls the 102 FPS result "with frame generation and DLSS quality", but its table labels the DLSS rows by mode only. Read the DLSS rows as most likely 2X FG on. Note how the 1% lows barely move. That's the game's traversal stutter, and no frame-gen setting fixes it.

RTX 5070 Ti average FPS in The Blood of Dawnwalker, native vs DLSS modes, per Sportskeeda

Step 4: Check that it's working

  1. Press Alt+Z > Statistics > Statistics View > DLSS (NVIDIA's own method). The overlay shows the active Super Resolution preset (M, L or K) and the Frame Generation mode and multiplier. In Dynamic mode the multiplier changes as you move between the open world and interiors.
  2. Turn on the FPS counter in the same overlay. With Dynamic MFG and "Max refresh rate", the displayed FPS should sit near your monitor's Hz in demanding areas, such as the first village DSOGaming used for testing.
  3. If the overlay still shows Preset K or 2X on an RTX 50 card, the override isn't active. See the fixes below.

Recommended settings by GPU tier

GPU tier SR override Upscaling mode (in-game) Frame Generation Notes
RTX 5090 / 5080 Recommended (M at Performance) or force M Quality (1440p) / Performance (4K) NVIDIA app Dynamic, Max refresh rate, max 4X High preset + selected Ultra
RTX 5070 Ti / 5070 Recommended Balanced–Performance Dynamic, max 4X Aim for 50–60 real FPS before FG
RTX 5060 Ti / 5060 Recommended Performance (1080p/1440p) Dynamic, max 3–4X Medium–High, watch 8GB VRAM
RTX 40 Series Recommended or Preset M Quality–Performance In-game DLSS FG 2X ("Use 3D app setting") No MFG/Dynamic on RTX 40
RTX 30 / RTX 20 Preset K Quality–Balanced None (DLSS FG unsupported); FSR Frame Gen is an option at 60+ FPS M/L cost more without FP8

The RTX 20/30 advice comes from NVIDIA's FP8 note and from community tests reported by Tom's Hardware. On an RTX 3080 Ti, Preset M ran 14–24% slower than Preset K in Cyberpunk 2077. That's a different game, but the same DLSS cost applies:

RTX 3080 Ti, DLSS Quality Preset K (DLSS 4) Preset M (DLSS 4.5) Change
4K RT Ultra 42 FPS 32 FPS −24%
1440p RT Ultra 72 FPS 61 FPS −15%
1440p Ultra, no RT 108 FPS 86 FPS −20%

Source: Tom's Hardware. The same article quotes NVIDIA saying 4.5 runs only 2–3% slower than 4.0 on RTX 50.

Troubleshooting

DLSS Override is greyed out or says "Unsupported"

  • Update the NVIDIA app and opt into beta if "Dynamic" is missing. Make sure the driver is 595.97+ (ideally 621.01/621.12). Fully quit the app (system tray too) and reopen it so it pulls the new game profile from NVIDIA's Oct 28 update.
  • Make sure the profile points to the right .exe (Steam install folder). Turn DLSS on in-game at least once. Overrides only apply to games where DLSS is active.
  • On RTX 40/30/20, Dynamic and Fixed MFG simply won't appear. That's expected.

Frame Generation won't turn on in-game, or turns itself off

  • Reset the Global DLSS override to default and use only the per-game profile. Then turn FG on in-game and restart the game.
  • If you used DLSS Swapper or manually replaced DLLs at launch, restore the original files first. See how to restore original DLSS DLLs.

Stutter or uneven frame pacing

  • The game has camera and traversal stutter that DSOGaming saw at launch. Frame generation smooths average FPS, not hitches. Install the game on an SSD (it's a requirement) and keep it on v1.1.
  • Turn off VSync and in-game frame caps when using Dynamic mode. Dynamic mode and limiters fight each other.
  • Lower the max multiplier (6X → 4X → 3X) if motion looks smeary. That keeps more of the shown frames real.

Input feels laggy (latency / Reflex)

  • Frame generation adds delay that grows as your real frame rate drops. NVIDIA pairs DLSS FG with Reflex. The menu has no separate Reflex toggle in the published settings list, so the way to cut latency is a higher base frame rate: use a lower preset or DLSS Performance before raising the multiplier.
  • In combat-heavy play, a Custom Dynamic target a little below your refresh rate, or Fixed 2–3X, feels more responsive than 6X.

Crash when enabling FrameGen on AMD RX 9070 XT: this is a known issue Rebel Wolves lists for 1.1 (patch notes). It doesn't affect NVIDIA overrides.
